Me, Myself & I...

Untitled 12 copy

I was born and raised in Southern California and music has always been in my life. Growing up, my parents played all different kinds of music around the house from the Eagles to Anita Baker, to Frank Sinatra and Broadway show tunes. My mom had learned to read music and play the piano as a young girl as did my two older sisters. At the age of five I took an interest in the piano and picked up tunes by ear. I played without reading a single note.

My grandfather was a pianist in his own right and he inspired me to play. As I reached high school at the age of 14, the guitar entered into my world and I was able to play right away with ease. I became a huge fan of Metallica, so much so that I learned almost every one of their songs throughout my high school days. Near the end of my senior year, I got together with some friends and formed my first band called KNOB (don’t!). It wasn’t until I was in a band that I discovered my vocal chords.

On my way out of high school, I picked up a cheap Tama drum kit, since the sound of playing drums was so appealing to me at the time. I was able to hold a fat pocket immediately and it suddenly became another instrument on my back. For college I attended Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama where I immediately formed a band called Perplexium. Since we couldn’t find a drummer, I picked up the sticks until I could find a REAL drummer. I hopped on lead guitar for the remainder of my 4 years there. It was these 4 years that put me in my place as a guitarist. When I arrived back in SoCal in 2008, I started a solo project where I invested countless hours producing my own music. I then found some real band mates to get my music off the ground. We formed SHYE band in 2011, which was a trio and shortly after formed a cover band called The Tomahawk .

It is currently the year 2012 and I am working on my first EP which is scheduled to be released sometime in late August. Accompanied by a class A drummer, Brock Bowers, we have created a sound that not only feels good but is quite addicting.

My genres of choice include Blues, Funk-Fusion Rock, Acoustic-Folk Rock, Experimental, and Electronic/rock fusion. I have been influenced by so many….Beatles, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder, Sinatra ERA, Bob Marley, America, Tower of Power, Eddie Bo, The Meters, Metallica, John Mayer, Sublime, Jack Johnson, Phil Collins, Journey, Pink Floyd, 311, Incubus, Earth, Wind and Fire, Michael Jackson, Bread, Doobie Brothers, Elton John, Billy Joel, John Lennon, Radiohead, The Temptations, Phish, String Cheese Incident, Dave Matthews Band, Nat King Cole, Maroon 5, Los Lonely Boys, Led Zepplin, Kansas, Justin Timberlake, James Taylor, Jackson Brown, Herbie Hancock, Guster, George Michael, Garth Brooks, Galactic, G Love, Foo Fighters, Elvis Presley, Flaming Lips, Deftones, The Eagles, David Bowie, Coldplay, Bob Dylan, Chicago, Ben Harper, Sting, Tom Petty, Van Morrison and War.
